Wine Corner: hope & grace

Happy Wine Wednesday! After several months of planning to dedicate a whole section of my blog to wine, I’m finally getting around to the first post!

Just a little background on my personal wine preferences before we jump right in! For starters, I will almost always choose a Champagne or Prosecco when possible, followed by a Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, or a Malbec. Even before I became a vegetarian, I never really went with the recommendations for which wine to pair with which meat/seafood/etc. I just tend to pick the wine I want, and enjoy it! I gravitate towards light/bright/dry/crisp flavors. Fear not, I will drink the occasional oaked or unoaked Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, or a Shiraz. I mean, I drank André for all of college, so I can only go up from there, am I right? At the end of the day, wine is all about personal preference. I have read and re-read and googled and researched what flavor profile you SHOULD taste in a particular wine but sometimes, you may taste something completely different and you may love it, you may not.

We have ordered wines from wine.com, been members of a wine club, bought wine from wineries/tasting rooms, and of course the local grocery stores and gas stations. Our price points vary depending on the occasion (is it a Tuesday? a celebration? the dog’s birthday?!) Whatever the case, there are so many places and price points so I’ll attempt to cover a bit of everything in this wine corner with y’all!

So, onto our first Wine Wednesday together! Naturally, after the chat above, you’re probably expecting me to start with a bubbly. Well, shockingly, I’m kicking this corner of the blog off with…a….Riesling!? Yes, a Riesling! Meet the 2013 hope & grace Riesling out of Napa Valley. We were first introduced to this little gem when we visited Napa last summer. We had stopped in for a treat and coffee in Yountville, at Bouchon Bakery, and stumbled upon the cutest tasting room just down the street. The vibe was cozy, the guy behind the counter was friendly (unlike some of the pushier tasting guides we had met throughout the week), and we felt like it was the first tasting room that we thoroughly enjoyed all the wines. We purchased the Riesling, a Malbec, and a Pinot Noir to have shipped back home. It felt like Christmas when they arrived! We had completely forgotten they were coming and were thrilled when we got to relive our Napa trip.

Wine: hope & grace 2013 Riesling
Summary: This particular Riesling is very dry, perfect for summers on the patio, and the crisp finish is FABULOUS. I picked up hints of citrus/fruit, and a little spice kick at the end. Not in an overpowering way!
